American Income Life CEO Roger Smith

Roger Smith is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of American Income Life (AIL).

Born in New York and raised in Southern California, Roger Smith joined American Income Life Insurance Company fresh out of school in 1975. He quickly excelled as a field associate rising to become Associate of the Year in 1976, his first year with AIL. Soon after he was promoted to management and went on to become a top manager. In 1980, Roger was again promoted to SGA for the state of Arkansas.  During his tenure as SGA there, he achieved two significant milestones; being recognized as the state with the greatest percentage over quota, and becoming the first small population state to write over $1 million in Annual Life Premium.

Mr. Smith subsequently became the SGA for the states of Illinois and Iowa building one of the leading territories within American Income Life. He progressively set and broke numerous production records over the next decade. In September of 1999, Roger was appointed Executive Vice President of American Income Life. Since assuming the leadership of AIL's sales force he has instituted a highly successful turnaround which has led to record growth and production for the company.

In January of 2002, Roger was appointed to President and Chief Marketing Officer of American Income Life. In addition, in December of 2003 the announcement was made of Roger’s promotion to Chief Executive Officer and President of American Income Life.

In just four years, AIL has doubled its agency force and its volume of new sales. In 2002, American Income Life Insurance Company became the most profitable distribution system within Torchmark. For 2003, AIL continued to be the fastest growing and highest margin distribution system. During this period Roger received recognition in a number of public service areas. He was appointed to the Board of the Alliance for Retired Americans, which represents retired Union members concerning their political and social needs. He is also a member of the Board of EHDOC (Elderly Housing Development & Operations Corporation) which manages the health, welfare and housing of Union poverty level retirees. He serves as the Vice Chairman of the Labor Advisory Board of American Income Life and National Income Life as well as a consultant to LCLAA (Labor Council for Latin American Advancement). Roger Smith has been an active member of the National Democratic Committee for a number of years. Roger lives in McKinney, Texas with his wife Dottie and their children Emily and Adam.
